About Me

Donna (aka: ShadowMill)
Ever since I was a little kid, I have loved paper and paper folding and paper crafting and writing on paper and…well, you get the idea. My dad was a railroad engineer, but he sometimes worked part time in one of those old-fashioned printing places with the big scary printing presses — the kind where you set the type by hand. He used to bring home scraps of all kinds of paper — all kinds of textures and colors. We kept these fabulous treasures in a big drawer in the kitchen and we kids had unlimited access to make stuff with it. (Now my craft room unfortunately resembles that drawer on steroids!) Our family had been in the printing business for several generations, so I guess I come by writing and a love of paper naturally. Now I love sharing it with all of you who stop by this site!
A little more about me… I was born and raised in Iowa and even though I live in Utah now, I still consider myself to be a level-headed (not the same thing as flat headed) Midwestern girl. I’ve been a widow for seven years now and my late husband was also from Iowa. We raised two sons who turned out to be pretty good guys, if I do say so myself. A lot of that though had to do with my husband. He was a great dad for them and did all the guy things that make me roll my eyes and wonder which planet men really come from.
Soooo………
Why do I have an alias of Shadow Mill? No, you probably won’t find me on any wanted posters — that I know of. It’s just the nickname I have over at Splitcoast Stampers and there are some who know me by that. It comes from the names of my two demented, but much-loved dogs — Shadow and Millie.
OK, so now I’ve explained Shadow Mill, but what about DonnaJ9? Well, my middle name is Jeanine and my dad always shortened it to J9 (Jea +Nine) or just DonnaJ9.

Just so that you can be sure to watch out for me on the road…
I put this on my windshield when I was commuting every day. I thought it might be nice to get some free advertising for my blog. Either that or I’ll be flooded with obscene messages about my driving!

Just the facts: I love to share my work with others for their enjoyment and mine, but please don’t use my photos unless I’ve given permission first.
