My Botanical Offering for the Day
Hi Stampers,
I made this card covered in Lunaria or “Silver Dollars” for my mom because she is especially fascinated by them. I found a secret stash of these plants growing wild up in one of the canyons near me and every other Fall or so, I go up and pick some.
They really are interesting if you haven’t seen them before. The first year they start out as low green ground cover stuff. Then they sprout purplish flowers and in the Fall, the stalks that are left are like those shown in the photo of the card — very dry, brittle, and beautiful. They reseed themselves very easily and the seeds are contained on top of the “Silver Dollar” part covered by two grubby looking disks protecting the silver part inside. You just flick the coverings off to reveal the shiney part. They make wonderful flower arrangements and last for a long, long time!
So… back to the part where my mom likes these so much. I made a bouquet of them for her last year and she just loves looking at them. I’ve been wanting to use some on a card. This one is a base of Chocolate Chip cardstock with a strip of Autumn Meadows DSP on the side. Take a close look at the “brads” on this card. They are actually the seeds from the plant! Fun, huh? The “Give Thanks” sentiment is from the Autumn Harvest rub-ons (Item #115731.) The rub-on is white, so I rubbed a little More Mustard ink over it to blend in better.
Enjoy and thanks for stopping!
